Take a really close look at these two pictures.
By the time the first picture was snapped, I had spent years slaving away under the bar, battling for 5 pound increases.
And I was no weakling, either.
I was deadlifting 400, squatting 250, and bench pressing 250 as well.
But I was really excited, because I was finally done losing weight, and it was time to bulk!
So, I upped my calories and started lifting harder than ever before.
In a year, my "Big 3 Total" shot through the roof!
By the time the second picture was snapped, I was deadlifting 500 pounds, squatting 330 pounds, and bench pressing 300 pounds!
But I didn't really look all that muscular.
I looked a bit more like a lumberjack, sure.
But that's not what I was going for.
Then I had an epiphany.
You see, being a full-time math teacher, I've had some very bright kids not get the results they want.
"Do your homework and put in the time to understand it. Then things will fall into place," I'd often say.
I wasn't taking the time to do my own homework.
And my results were suffering.
(As were my joints--squatting is a bit different for a 6'8" guy who's no longer a spring chicken.)
So, I finally devoted time to my homework...learning not JUST how to build muscle--but the secrets to building muscle for the body I want.
